How I spent the weekend:

It was a bit rainy and dreary in my corner of Provence this weekend. A good time to start a fire (in the fireplace!) and read a book. Managed to read this Margaret Atwood - published in '86, it's taken me a while.

If you're looking for marshmallows and double rainbows, give this one a miss. But still, very interesting, thought-provoking, and the great thing about dystopian novels is they always make your own life seem fabulous in comparison!

I also spent some time mucking around with a fat-eighth set of Anna Maria Horner's new line, Innocent Crush. (Just the quilting cottons.)

So far I have pieced and sewn into strips.

Next step will be to join it all together and then some, *gasp*, applique. I don't know why I do it to myself.

This week is going to be a big sewing week - the machine must go in for her service, I can't put it off any longer. As always I think I'll just finish one more thing... now she's 3 months overdue.

I know what you mean about the machine service thing, I'm the same. Naughty naughty!I do love your very flat patchwork pieces, gosh they look grand. I wonder what you are working on sneaky lady! At least with applique you won't need your machine - will you? I find hand sewing very relaxing.

Love the colors you picked for your quilt. Soft and whimsy yet vibrant and eye-catching at the same time. I'm looking to buy a sewing machine very soon so I can finally have some fun with patchwork and such.

Being without my sewing machine is like being without an arm. Perhaps I do not sew for a couple of weeks, but the machine is there and I feel safe! Nice colors for your quilt.

Pretty quilt - look forward to seeing more. I bought a new machine earlier in the year and kept my old one for a spare!

Lovely, lovely fabric combination! That Innocent Crush is such a stunning collection. My favourite print is the one with the little petals. I ordered 3 prints of the quilting cottons, but now I'm already eyeing the voiles and the velveteens ...! Maybe it's good it's so difficult to get them here in Europe ...?! Want them anyway!! :-D

I'm curious about the applique! Somehow in winter it's nice to do some sewing by hand as well. I should have my machine serviced, too!! Se deserves it ... ;-)

I only read "Alias Grace" by Margaret Atwood. I loved the recurrent patchwork/quilting theme in that novel!

I found that novel quite disturbing too. heard it serialised on National Radio. Don't know weather I would have kept reading if I'd had the book. But I felt compelled to keep listening.
All her books are a bit disturbibg I reckon, but compelling all the same. Don't you hate that cold turkey thing with the sewing machine!!!

The Handmaid's tale is a fantastic book. I read it for A level English where I studied utopias and distopias. I have to say that I haven't enjoyed any of her other books as much. Looking forward to seeing your appliqué!
